These large properties are still referred to as "Great Camps" because
of their origins over 100 years ago . They started out as tent
encampments for summer fishing and fall hunting. Later pads were laid
for the tents and soon they became outbuilding for cooking, sleeping,
bathing, etc. Then came the building of log homes and the camps grew
into the beautiful natural Great Camps that circle the lake today. The
camps are furnished with the rustic furniture that was often crafted by
the caretakers during the winter months.
